About Black Anvil Books

Forged in hardship. Built on truth. Driven by stories that matter.

Black Anvil Books is not a corporate imprint or a trendy startup. It is a working forge. A quiet place where books are shaped with steady hands, honest expectations, and a deep respect for the writers who bring them here.

This imprint did not come from a boardroom. It came from a life lived on real floors, under real pressure, with real consequences. It was tempered in loss and rebuilt on purpose. Every service we offer grows out of that story.

The work before the words

Before publishing, my world was engines, diagnostics, and long days on concrete. I managed fleets, led technicians, and kept shops running where trucks came in broken and went out ready to work because people depended on it. It was not glamorous. It was honest.

You learn a few things in that kind of life. You learn that truth matters more than talk. You learn that clarity matters more than cleverness. You learn that reliability is not a slogan. It is a choice you make every day while other people trust you to keep things moving.

I did not plan to leave that world. It was what I knew and where I was good. Then life changed the rules.

The storm that changed everything

A medical disaster hit hard and fast. It cost me both of my legs and nearly everything I understood about who I was and how I fit in the world. One day I was walking the shop, calling shots, turning wrenches. The next I was staring at a future I had never planned for and never wanted.

When something that big is taken from you, you either break or you rebuild. I chose to rebuild. Slow, stubborn, one day at a time.

I could not walk the yards or move through the bays anymore. But my mind was still sharp. My instincts for diagnostics and problem solving were still there. My belief in hard, honest work did not go anywhere.

Somewhere in that long, rough stretch, I found stories again. I found myself reading more. Then writing. Then helping others fix their pages the same way I once fixed their trucks. One problem at a time. One clear recommendation at a time. One system at a time.

The unexpected door into publishing

I started working with writers who were trying to navigate this strange, tangled publishing world on their own. Most of them were overwhelmed. Smart people. Good storytellers. Completely buried in mixed advice, conflicting rules, and platforms that seem designed to confuse.

The same part of me that once listened to an engine and heard what was wrong could now look at a manuscript or a sales page and see what was out of line. Pacing problems. Structure issues. Metadata gaps. Category mistakes. All of it showed up like a bad vibration in a drive line.

Publishing became more than a new career. It became a way to keep doing what I have always done. Diagnose. Clarify. Repair. Guide. Only now the work is on pages and listings instead of trucks and shop schedules.

How Black Anvil Books was born

Black Anvil Books grew out of that rebuilt life and that new work. It is an imprint shaped by loss but driven by purpose. A place built for writers who want help from someone who understands both real pressure and real craft.

Here we believe in honesty over hype. Clarity over confusion. Steady support over loud promises. Craft over shortcuts. Human connection over corporate polish.

Every service we offer lives inside that frame. Manuscript reviews that give you a clear path instead of a vague pat on the back. Publishing setup that respects both your book and the standards of the platforms. Metadata and categories that actually help readers find you. Launch support that gives you a realistic plan instead of a fantasy.

What we believe

Stories save lives

Sometimes it is slow and quiet. Sometimes it is sudden. Sometimes it is just enough to get someone through one more hard night. Stories matter. We treat them that way.

Writers deserve clarity

Publishing is often kept confusing on purpose. We will not add to that noise. If we can explain something in plain language, we will.

Craft is a muscle

It grows with use, patience, and guidance. Not pressure. Not shame. Not perfectionism. You can get better from where you are.

Second chances matter

This imprint exists because of one. We honor that by giving writers room to try again, improve, and move forward.

A good book is forged

Steel does not become a blade without heat and hammer. A book does not become its best self without revision, feedback, and time. We respect that process.

Human beats corporate

We are not interested in acting like a faceless company. You will know who you are working with and what is happening with your project at each step.

Why Black Anvil Books exists

This imprint exists for writers who care deeply about their work but do not want to be swallowed by confusion or sales talk. It exists for the author who wants a clear next step, not a dozen conflicting ones. It exists for the storyteller who is willing to do the work but needs someone to walk the path with them for a while.

Sometimes all a writer really needs is a steady voice saying:

"Your story matters. Let us shape it the right way."

That is what Black Anvil Books offers. Not guarantees. Not shortcuts. Just honest support, solid craft, and a clear process that respects both you and your readers.

Meet the Founder

Black Anvil Books was shaped by a lifetime of real work, a life-changing medical struggle, and a stubborn belief in second chances. This imprint stands on the same values that carried me through the shop floors, the long nights, and the long road back: honesty, clarity, and steady support.

Founder’s Note

Welcome to the forge. Your story belongs here.

If you have a draft in progress, a finished manuscript, or even just a strong idea that will not leave you alone, you are not bothering us. You are the reason this imprint exists. Reach out, tell us where you are in the process, and we will help you decide what makes sense next.

You do not have to do this alone. Not every step. Not every problem. Not every decision.
